This felt like reading something out of an esoteric academic journal, dang, I felt like I was back in grad school being forced to wade through academic drivel again.

Inthe third and final copy was written from memory by the last survivor of the original researchers: The Science on the Nature of Evil says it all. Parts of the book also struck me as racist, particularly antisemitic. He was not the first such researcher who followed a similar path. Imagine no struggles with shame, not a single one in your whole life, no matter what kind of selfish, lazy, harmful, or immoral action you had taken.

Lobaczewski describes social cycles, psychopathic types, dangerous cognitive errors, pathological systems of government, religion and science, and introduces new terms for concepts that may have been previously described, but only in vague terms, like ‘pathocracy’, ‘ponerization’, ‘ponerology’, ‘ponerogenic unions’ and others.

If the message of the book is as important to the world as the author suggests, why not make a better attempt to make the book more accessible for as many readers as possible? Its receipt was never acknowledged – the manuscript and all valuable data lost. But this book is a classic and should be read by anyone wanting to understand how our corporations or political systems can take a wrong turn.

And – as Lobaczewski demonstrates – the origin of evil actually lies outside the boundaries of the conventional worldview within which the earlier moral inquiries and literary explorations were conducted. I’m always interested in books that address the question of why this world is so messed up, but sorry, the academic language and style of writing defeated me, couldn’t take it anymore. If we properly understood that some people are without conscience we’d protect our society, eliminating them from positions of power, identifying their pseudologic and twisting of words, preventing it from causing damage.

Not only did they identify the root causes of the evil that plagued Imagine searching through the vaults of the secret police in some future dystopia. This book is a great help to me in finding some understanding of the collapsing culture all around me, and perhaps how I can cope? Evil requires a truly modern and scientific approach to lay bare its secrets. Personally, I’d prefer the philosophers, thank you.
